He said the telephone conversation reflected the warm personal camaraderie between the two leaders, with Mr Trump saying “the whole world loves Modi” and calling India a wonderful country and the Prime Minister a wonderful person.

Mr Trump also said he considered Mr Modi and India a true friend, the sources said, noting that the Indian leader was one of the first world leaders he spoke to after his victory.

In a post on Twitter, Mr Modi said, “Had a very good conversation with my friend, President Donald Trump, congratulated him on his great victory. Look forward to working together once again to further strengthen India-US relations in technology, defence, energy, space and many other areas.” As Mr Trump cruised to victory, Mr Modi earlier in the day Congratulated him on his “historic” presidential election victory, and said he looked forward to renewing their cooperation to further strengthen the India-US comprehensive global and strategic partnership.
