In a post on X, he stressed accountability for the incident in which a shooter fired eight rounds at the former US president during an election rally, injuring him.

“Accountability is non-negotiable,” Nancy Mace said.

The representative also announced that she was withdrawing the impeachment resolution against the Secret Service director because the officer had already resigned.

“Heading straight to the Speaker’s office. Now that Director Cheatle has resigned after his backroom scuffle yesterday and following our articles of impeachment, we are withdrawing our motion for impeachment,” she wrote.

Mace and Cheatle engage in heated exchange During a recent congressional hearing, during which the representative accused the Secret Service director of lying and described him as “full of crap.”

The Secret Service, responsible for protecting US political leaders, faced severe criticism after an assassination attempt at an election rally in Pennsylvania on July 13.

On July 23, Cheatle resigned as head of the agency, taking “full responsibility” for the security lapse. During a congressional hearing, he described the incident as the “biggest operational failure” in decades.

Meanwhile, the US Department of Homeland Security has appointed an independent panel to conduct a comprehensive review of the planning and actions taken by the Secret Service and state and local authorities before, during and after the Pennsylvania rally.
