Vietnam’s parliament will elect a new state president in October, a senior National Assembly official said on Monday (August 26, 2024) after an extraordinary meeting of parliament.
Current state president To Lam was appointed head of the ruling Communist Party, the country’s most powerful position, in early August, two weeks after the death of long-time general secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
