In North Carolina’s Outer Banks, a home on the picturesque shoreline collapsed, with the pillar standing on top of it sinking and the entire structure falling into the ocean.
Explaining the possible reason behind the collapse of the house, meteorologists said that the strong waves and high tides generated by Hurricane Ernesto led to the incident, the New York Times reported.
Trending Politics co-owner Collin Rugg posted a video of the collapse on his official X handle on Sunday. He explained in the post, “Beachfront home on North Carolina’s Outer Banks collapsed into the Atlantic Ocean. The incident was caused by Hurricane Ernesto, which is off the coast in the Atlantic. The unfortunate owners purchased the 4-bed, 2-bath home in 2018 for $339,000. The home was built in 1973.”
The National Park Service said this is the seventh incident in Rodanthe in the past four years and visitors have been warned to stay away from beaches near Cape Hatteras National Seashore, The Guardian reports.
Access to the area from Rodanthe to the Jug Handle Bridge has been restricted following the accident, as debris from the incident has washed ashore. Pieces of jagged metal and wooden planks, some of which have nails stuck into them, are now littered across the beaches, posing a danger to people.
Officials said several other homes around Rodanthe were also damaged. “Hazardous debris may lie on the beach and in the water more than a dozen miles out,” The Guardian reported citing officials.
A warning from the park service warned of “exposed hazards such as home-related septic systems, wires, pipes and broken concrete parking pads.”
