Ohio Senator JD Vance On Monday evening, a day before his much-awaited Vice Presidential debate with Tim WalzMade a direct pitch on individuals who donated billions to the Republican Party.
In the private dining room of a French restaurant in New York City, Vance addressed some of the Republican Party’s largest donors, the new York Times Informed.
The Republican vice presidential nominee and running mate of Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential elections met with members of the American Opportunity Coalition. the new York TimesVance was interviewed by Rehan Salaam, the head of the conservative think tank Manhattan Institute, during a private event.
The American Opportunity Coalition includes the Wall Street crowd and some major donors to Vance’s party, many of whom, interestingly, are not yet supporting Vance or former President Donald Trump. The group also includes renowned hedge fund manager, Paul Singer, who is a well-known leader of the group. Vance received a positive response from some members, while others expressed concerns about some of Vance’s positions on the economy and foreign policy.
Vance also briefly mentioned the upcoming vice-presidential debate he will be attending, which is also the reason for his appearance in New York City. The Republican vice presidential nominee was asked if he could handle his opponent Tim Walz with a straight face Tuesday night, according to sources.
In response, Vance pointed to Walz’s tendency to use dramatic gestures and said he would prefer to keep the debate’s focus on issues like borders and immigration, which Vance believes Walz and Kamala Harris is the Achilles’ heel for the Democratic duo.
Vance was joined during the meeting by his wife, Usha Vance, who said he would give her credit if she performed well during the debate. He said, if the opposite happens then it will be his responsibility alone.
Vance was also questioned about his plans to use his platform to appeal to more moderate Republicans such as Mitt Romney and Nikki Haley. In response, he said that he was very interested in winning their support. Vance acknowledged on several occasions that some of his positions on issues were unpopular, NYT Informed.
For example, Vance defended his position on Ukraine. His position on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine was more or less in line with the interventionist leanings of the donor group.
Highlighting his recent appearance on podcasts such as “Full Send” by the Nelk Boys, Vance acknowledged that Trump and he were working together to attract young male voters.
Interestingly, Vance last spoke with the group in 2016 during the anti-Trump phase following the publication of his memoir ‘Hillbilly Elegy’. Notably, following a change in Vance’s political stances in 2016, many members of the group decided to support Vance’s opponents.
