Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance launched a scathing attack on Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, saying turning to her to tackle inflation would be like putting notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in charge of anti-human trafficking policies.
Vance accused Harris and the Democratic campaign of “doubling down” on the current administration’s failed policies, signaling continued economic mismanagement in the United States.
“Shannon, giving Kamala Harris control of inflation policy is like giving Jeffrey Epstein control of human trafficking policy. The American people are smarter than that,” Vance told “Fox News Sunday” anchor Shannon Bream.
The clip of Vance attacking Kamala Harris by using the Jeffrey Epstein analogy soon went viral on social media.
“They don’t buy the idea that Kamala Harris represents a new beginning. That’s the same kind of thing. It’s doubling down on failed policies.” [current] “This is a huge mistake,” the Ohio senator said.
Jeffrey Edward Epstein was an American financier and sex offender. Epstein was first arrested in 2005 in Florida for paying a 14-year-old girl for sex. Dozens of other minor girls accused him of similar sexual abuse.
Vance’s inflammatory remarks came as he appeared increasingly agitated by recent polling data indicating Vice President Harris was leading former President Trump in key states and across the country.
According to an ABC/Washington Post/Ipsos poll released Sunday, Harris holds a 4-point lead over Trump among likely voters, marking the first time this election cycle that she has exceeded the margin of error.
Donald Trump’s running mate attempted to downplay Harris’ strong performance by citing other polls which he claimed showed her support rising compared to the former US president.
Vance said “we can’t worry about polls”, dismissing them as a media ploy intended “to depress Republican turnout and create divisions among Republican voters”.
He claimed, “I’m telling you, every single person watching this knows the Trump campaign is in great shape. We’re going to win this race. We just have to run to the finish line.”
Last week, the Indian-American vice president unveiled a slew of proposals aimed at easing the financial burden on working-class families grappling with rising costs. Her plan includes implementing a national ban on “price-gouging,” introducing a $25,000 tax credit for first-time homebuyers, and raising the child tax credit to $6,000, among other measures.
