A British woman celebrated her 102nd birthday on Sunday by skydiving from a plane and said she hoped her bold actions would inspire other elderly people to stay active.
Manette Bailly said it was “a little scary,” adding, “I have to admit I closed my eyes pretty tight.”
Ms Bailey said BBC Radio All she wanted was that “people who are moving into their 80s and 90s shouldn’t give up on anything. Just keep going”.
This is not the first time the 100-year-old man from Benhall Green village in eastern England has taken on a daring challenge.
Two years ago, on the occasion of his 100th birthday, he drove a Ferrari at speeds of 210 kilometres per hour (130 mph) around the Silverstone motor racing circuit.
Ms Bailey jumped from a height of more than 2,100 metres (6,900 feet) in the skydive at Beccles Airfield, accompanied by an assistant.
Ms Bailey said she was inspired to take up the cause after she had earlier heard about a friend’s 85-year-old father skydiving.
She said, “If an 85-year-old man can do it, so can I.”
