Typhoon Kong-Re weakened into a tropical storm overnight and is forecast to bring heavy rain and strong winds to Shanghai and other parts of China’s east coast on Friday (November 1, 2024).
The typhoon swept across Taiwan at high speed on Thursday (October 31, 2024), downing trees and causing landslides that covered roads and damaged homes. Two people died and more than 500 others were injured.
Authorities in Taiwan’s east coast province of Hualien said they have reestablished contact with a Czech couple who were reported missing. According to the official Central News Agency, “the two had set up a tent in Taroko National Park and were in good condition.”
