This incident has come at a time when Growing enthusiasm for Harris President Joe Biden, under pressure after a disappointing performance in a debate with Trump, dropped out of the presidential race.
Gabbard, who left the Democratic Party after his 2020 presidential bid, has reportedly been helping Trump during practice sessions at Mar-a-Lago, the Republican’s private club and home.
Donald Trump’s spokeswoman Caroline Levitt confirmed the development to the New York Times.
“The former President has proven to be one of the best debaters in political history, as evidenced by his crushing defeat of Joe Biden. He will not require traditional debate preparation, but will continue to meet with respected policy advisors and effective communicators like Tulsi Gabbard, who successfully dominated Kamala Harris on the debate stage in 2020,” the spokesperson said.
In fact, one of the main reasons Gabbard was chosen was her impressive performance while debating with Harris during the Democratic primary in 2019. During the debate, Gabbard launched a scathing attack on Harris’ record as a prosecutor.
Gabbard accused Harris of putting 1,500 people in prison for marijuana violations and also accused her of initially withholding evidence that could have freed an innocent man from death row. The debate proved disastrous for Harris as she dropped out of the race in December 2019.
On the other hand, Harris has also stepped up efforts to counter Trump and held her first formal debate training session at Howard University earlier this week, CNN reported. Harris is reportedly taking help from two senior advisers to Hillary Clinton, Philippe Reines and Karen Dunn, for her preparations.
