A week before Election Day, Republican nominee and former US President Donald Trump leaned on familiar themes at an election rally in Atlanta, Georgia, the capital of the key battleground state.
Mr Trump talked about the US being overrun by dangerous criminal illegal immigrants, made several derisive references to his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris, and called the media at the rally “fake news”. He described the election as a fight against the “radical leftist machine” and said he would tackle inflation and end wars in West Asia and Europe.
Mr Trump touted his economic message of cutting taxes and tackling inflation as he spent much of the evening talking about Democrats, Ms Harris and illegal immigration.
Mr Trump showed the crowd a video narrated by the mother of Jocelyn Nungare, 12, of Houston, who was murdered in June. Two unidentified Venezuelans were accused of his murder. The case has been frequently referenced by Republicans who blame the Biden administration’s policies (and more recently, Ms. Harris) for the death.
On Monday (October 28, 2024), Mr Trump insulted Ms Harris, questioning her intellectual skills, calling her a “low IQ person”, a “train wreck” and other names.
He also took aim at former first lady Michelle Obama, who had strong words for Mr Trump during a speech on Saturday evening (Oct 26, 2024) in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
“I always tried to be so nice and respectful,” he said, “She opened a little box.” She was bad. That was a big mistake.”
At one point while Mr. Trump was talking about Ms. Harris, the crowd chanted, “Lock her up, lock her up.”
“Be nice,” Mr. Trump said. When crowds at his election rallies in years past asked him to jail his former Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, Mr. Trump said he could have done so as president, but he chose not to. Decided because it would be bad for the country since Ms. Clinton. Was a former First Lady and Secretary of State.
Mr Trump’s Atlanta speech came 24 hours later After a rally at Madison Square GardenNew York, which some Democrats last week compared to a Nazi rally held at the same location in 1939. Some of the speakers who opened the evening, including a comedian, criticized the rally for racist comments.
“I’m not a Nazi. I’m the opposite of a Nazi,” Mr Trump said on Monday (October 28, 2024).
In reference to Ms Harris and US President Joe Biden, Mr Trump said, “We are fighting against something much more powerful than them, which is a huge, vicious, devious, radical left-wing machine that runs the Democrat Party today . ,
