Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party confirmed Bushra’s release in a WhatsApp message. “Former first lady Bushra Bibi has been released from jail,” it said, adding that she was first arrested on January 31.

Bushra was arrested after a court convicted the couple in a corruption case and sentenced them to 14 years in prison.

The Toshakhana case involves corruption allegations against Khan and his wife for profiting from the sale of gifts received from foreign dignitaries.

Earlier, Justice Aurangzeb, while hearing the bail plea, had questioned the investigating officer of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) about the need for further questioning of the former first lady. The official confirmed that no additional investigation was required.

Bushra is Khan’s third wife and spiritual healer.

Meanwhile, the impeachment proceedings against Khan and Bushra, scheduled for Wednesday, were postponed due to security concerns as the hearing, which was being held in Rawalpindi’s high-security Adiala Jail, was shifted to the judicial complex in Islamabad.

However, security concerns continued to halt proceedings and the court rescheduled the arraignment for October 26.

Bushra’s release is a relief for PTI as well as Khan, who has been insisting that his wife had nothing to do with the case.
