Turkish TikTok influencer Kubra Aykut, known for her viral “Wedding Without a Groom” video, has died by suicide at the age of 26 in Istanbul. Turkish media reports indicate the fall occurred from the fifth floor of a luxury apartment building in the Aykut Sultanbeyli district.
The incident occurred on September 23 and officials found a suicide note at the scene.
In the days before his suicide, many fans had expressed concern over Kubra’s social media posts, which seemed increasingly disturbing. Just hours before his death, he had shared a touching letter on his account discussing his struggles with weight gain.
“I have gathered my energy, but my weight is not increasing. I am losing one kilogram every day. I don’t know what to do; I need to gain weight urgently,” she said in her last post.
In his last TikTok video, shortly before his suicide, Kubra was seen cleaning his house.
Notably, Aykut had one million followers on her TikTok account and 2,07,000 followers on her Instagram account.
Kubra gained significant popularity on TikTok in 2023 with her unique and empowering “Wedding Without a Groom” series. In a striking gesture, she symbolically “married” herself, wearing a beautiful white gown and tiara, declaring, “I cannot find a suitable groom for myself”.
In another video, Kubra was captured getting into the car with a bouquet in her hand and cheering happily. In a separate viral clip, she was humorously enjoying a burger while still wearing her wedding dress, calling herself a “nervous bride.”
Turkish authorities have begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Aykut’s death, and his body is currently undergoing an autopsy. His funeral will be held in his hometown, where his parents live, and many fellow TikTok influencers are expected to come to pay tribute.
