Three Indian tourists and their Nepali guide were rescued safely from Nepal’s Nagarkot forest on Sunday, nearly 10 hours after they went missing, according to police.
The tourists – identified as Nitin Tiwari, Rashmi Tiwari and Tanish Tiwari – and their Nepali guide Hari Prasad Kharel went missing from the Muhan Pokhari Rani Jhula area in the Nagarkot forest of Bhaktapur district, 30 km east of Kathmandu.
According to the police, the Indian nationals were between 30 and 40 years of age.
Shyam Krishna Shrestha, chairman of Ward No. 7 Changunarayan, said the missing people lost their way around 3pm on Saturday and the rescue team reached the spot at midnight.
Police said that they went missing as they could not find the way to Rani Jhula area and mistakenly went towards the nearby forest area.
According to Changunarayan Mayor Jeevan Khatri, they were found in Halhale Khovpa area and were suffering from leech bites.
Soon after news of his disappearance spread, a coordinated rescue operation was launched by a team of armed police force, public representatives and residents.
The rescued people returned safely to Kathmandu.
