Three Arab Israeli tourists and two Egyptian hotel workers were injured in fighting in the Egyptian city of Taba, on the Israeli border, on Friday (August 30, 2024), Egyptian security sources said.

Sources said a physical altercation broke out when an Arab Israeli tourist verbally insulted an Egyptian hotel employee, leading to a scuffle in which other tourists and employees also joined in.

Egypt’s state-run channel Al-Qahera News reported that an Egyptian employee was seriously injured. The channel also reported that the fighting began when several tourists refused to pay for the hotel’s services.

There have been occasional attacks on Israelis in Egypt since then. The Gaza War began on 7 October.
