The family of 21-year-old Romijuddin Roop is mourning the death of their son who was killed during the terror attack. Violent clashes between students and Bangladesh police on 4 August Romijuddin was one of several students who died during protests against government job quota in the city.
Romijuddin is a polytechnic student at Daffodil University and was actively involved in protests against the Sheikh Hasina government. However, his family was not aware of his participation in the protests. On the day of the incident, Romijuddin left the house, telling his mother that he was going to meet friends, despite the tense situation outside.
Violent clashes broke out between protesters and police during the demonstration in Dhanmondi and Shahbagh areas, following which police opened fire on the protesters. Romijuddin was shot and was rushed to Dhaka Medical College, where doctors declared him dead.
His family is shocked by the news. His sister, Nahin Mehnaz, a receptionist at a three-star hotel in old Dhaka, expressed her grief, telling India Today, “We never knew he was active in the protests. He had said he was going to meet friends. We came to know about his death only when his body was taken to the medical college.”
