Police have arrested a 32-year-old woman as six people were injured in the incident. knife attack A man was killed on a bus traveling to a festival in western Germany. Authorities said on Saturday (August 31, 2024) that there was no evidence of a political or religious motive.
Police said on Friday (August 30, 2024) evening that the condition of three of those attacked was critical.
The knife attack happened in Siegen, east of Cologne. The bus was heading to a local festival in the city and had at least 40 people on board when the attack happened at around 7:40pm.
Police and prosecutors said the six injured people were aged between 16 and 30 and all lived in the area. By Saturday morning, three of them had been discharged from hospital.
Local authorities planned to hold the festival.
The stabbing incident in Siegen occurred a week later. Knife attack in SolingenA suspected Islamic extremist from Syria who escaped deportation has been accused of killing three people and wounding eight others in a town in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
The Solingen attack prompted the ruling coalition to draw up plans to toughen knife laws and make deportations easier.
The woman arrested in Siegen is a German citizen of no immigrant origin, police said.
