The Russian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday (August 28, 2024) announced the addition of 92 new names to its list. Restrictions on entry of Americans These include some journalists who have previously worked in Russia, as well as law enforcement and business people.
A ministry statement said the sanctions were imposed “in response to the Russophobic course pursued by the Biden administration with the stated goal of strategically defeating Moscow.”
It said the banned journalists “represent leading liberal-global publications involved in the creation and dissemination of false news about Russia and the Russian Armed Forces.”
The new list of sanctioned Americans includes 11 current or former employees of The Wall Street Journal – including its editor-in-chief, Emma Tucker, who had repeatedly criticized Russia – leading to arrests and convictions. The sanctions also apply to five New York Times journalists, including Kyiv bureau chief Andrew Kramer, and four journalists from The Washington Post.
Other Americans on the list include people working in law enforcement agencies, academics, and people in business and think tanks.
Russia has banned the entry of more than 2,000 Americans, according to the ministry’s list.
