Radical Islamic groups in Bangladesh have threatened minority Hindus not to celebrate Durga Puja openly in the country and are against nationwide holidays during the festival. He also asked the Hindus not to oppose him.
Minority Hindus alleged that the Bangladeshi government took no action against fundamentalist groups threatening not to celebrate the festival. The community has faced an increase in attacks after the fall of the previous Sheikh Hasina-led government.
