Hasina was removed from the post after a case was registered against her and 12 others in connection with the killing of two students during the violence in Dhaka’s Sutrapur area.
According to state-run news agency BSS, the complaint was filed with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Torikul Islam in connection with the murder of Kobi Nazrul Government College student Ikram Hossain Kawser and Shaheed Suhrawardy College student Umar Faruk.
On 19 July, two students protesting along with hundreds of others in front of Kobi Nazrul Government College and Shaheed Suhrawardy College were shot dead in separate incidents by police and Awami League supporters.
With this, the number of cases against Hasina has reached 12, including nine cases of murder, one of kidnapping and two cases of crimes against humanity and genocide in Bangladesh.
More than 230 people were killed in incidents of violence across the country following the fall of the Hasina-led Awami League government, taking the death toll to over 600 since massive protests launched by students in mid-July.
Other accused in the case include Awami League general secretary and former minister Obaidul Quader, Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, former Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud and former Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, reported news portal bdnews24.com.
The case also names former ICT State Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak, Dhaka Range Deputy Inspector General Syed Nurul Islam, former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, former DB chief Harunor Rashid, Additional Joint Commissioner Biplab Kumar Sarkar and DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman.
According to reports, 200-250 unidentified people, including leaders and activists of the Awami League and its front organisations, have also been made accused in the case.
Following the fall of the Hasina regime, an interim government was formed and 84-year-old Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus was appointed its chief advisor.
