According to the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll, US Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has taken a five-point lead over Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in the race for the US presidential election to be held on November 5. The survey, conducted from August 2-7, has Harris at 42% support while Trump trails with 37%. She is also ahead of Trump in seven swing states, where the contest was the closest in the 2020 election.
This represents a two-point increase for Harris since the July 22-23 Reuters/Ipsos poll, in which she was ahead by three points, 37% vs. 34%.
According to Reuters, “An Ipsos poll in August found that more voters associated Trump than Harris with the word “patriot” — a regular part of Trump’s campaign speeches — as well as with the word “weird,” which Harris supporters have used to taunt Trump in recent weeks.”
The nationwide survey of 2,045 American adults also found that Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Junior’s support has seen a drop, with only 4% now supporting him, down from 10% in July.
According to Reuters, the survey was conducted independently by Ipsos and had a margin of error of about 3 percent.
Harris leads by 2 points in seven key states
President Joe Biden, 81, ended his presidential campaign after a poor performance against Trump in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 27 and endorsed Kamala Harris, who entered the race on July 21. After the debate, Democrats pressured Biden to withdraw from the race.
Harris officially becomes the Democratic presidential nominee on 6 August and selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is his running mate.,
In a separate poll, Ipsos found Kamala Harris leading Donald Trump 40% to 42% in the seven states where the 2020 election was closest: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

However, the latest poll results indicate a significant shift in the presidential race, with Harris gaining momentum as the election draws closer.
