United States Vice President Kamala Harris’ public favorability rating has increased by nearly 8 percentage points over the past week. President Joe Biden drops out of presidential re-election campaignNew survey data has revealed.
Kamala Harris’ approval rating now stands at 43 percent to 42 percent favorable to unfavorable, ABC News reported, citing an Ipsos poll. The ABC News/Ipsos poll was conducted using Ipsos’ Knowledge Panel. Last week, the same poll gave her a 35 to 46 percent favorable to unfavorable rating.
After Joe Biden announced he would end his re-election campaign on July 20, several prominent Democrats, Including former President Barack Obamaendorsed Harris’s candidacy for the upcoming presidential election.
According to the latest poll forecasts, the shift in voter sentiment appears to be driven primarily by independent voters, who now favor Harris by a margin of 44 to 40 percent. In last week’s poll, these voters were in favor at 28 percent to 47 percent against.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen and now stands at 36 per cent favorable and 53 per cent unfavorable. Last week’s survey showed it was 40 per cent favorable and 51 per cent unfavorable.
The ABC News/Ipsos poll also assessed the favorability ratings of Harris’s potential running mates.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear received 13% in favor and 9% unfavorable, while 77% had no opinion or were unsure; California Governor Gavin Newsen (21%, 33%, 45%); Josh Shapiro (17%, 13%, 68%); Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (20%, 21%, 57%); North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper (7%, 8%, 84%); Arizona Senator Mark Kelly (22%, 12%, 65%); and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (6%, 7%, 86%).
Harris is expected to make her decision within the next two weeks, as Democrats plan a virtual roll call to officially nominate her for president.
