US President Joe Biden on Monday attacked Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, calling him a “loser” in his explosive speech at the opening ceremony of the Democratic National Convention.
“Donald Trump calls America a failed nation,” Biden said, adding, “He says, we’re losing. He’s a loser — he’s totally wrong.”
Joe Biden said America is “winning” and the world is “better than it was”, adding that Trump continues to “lie” on matters such as crime and immigration.
The 81-year-old reiterated his slamming of Trump over his “stupid and unsuccessful” remarks about troops.
Joe Biden said, “Who the hell does he think he is? Who does he think he is? These are the words of a man who is unfit to be commander in chief. That’s it. Not then. Not now. Not ever.”
He also praised Vice President Kamala Harris, confirming the party’s support for the 59-year-old in the presidential election in November.
Addressing the cheering crowd who gave him a four-minute standing ovation after he was introduced by his daughter Ashley Biden at the convention, the 81-year-old US President asked, “Are you ready to vote for freedom? Are you ready to vote for democracy and America? I ask you, are you ready to choose Kamala Harris and Tim Walz?”
Joe Biden spoke clearly and energetically as he spoke about his administration’s accomplishments – boosting the US economy and strengthening US alliances abroad. He reiterated his 2020 election campaign theme that “we are in a battle for the soul of America” and highlighted why Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz were best placed to achieve it.
“Because of you, we’ve seen four years of the most extraordinary progress we’ve ever seen,” Biden said. “And when I say ‘we,’ I mean me and Kamala.” He credited his most popular successes to the vice president, whom he endorsed for president after she dropped out of the White House race last month.
Joe Biden also condemned racism and white supremacy, which are rampant in America, saying there is no place for these in the country.
The US President was visibly emotional and wiped away tears after the crowd’s massive cheers and chants of “Thank you, Joe”.
Joe Biden responded, “America, I love you.”
Meanwhile, Kamala Harris suddenly appeared on stage – well before Joe Biden’s speech, which was postponed to late in the evening. thanks US President for his “historic leadership” and said the American people would be “forever grateful” to him.
“Joe, thank you for your historic leadership, for your lifetime of service to our nation, and for all you continue to do,” the Democratic presidential nominee said.
Harris will officially accept the nomination on Thursday.
Joe Biden’s decision to drop out of the presidential race was taken on July 21 after heavy pressure from Democratic leaders who were concerned that the 81-year-old Biden was too old to defeat Donald Trump, especially after his disappointing performance in June.
Based on opinion polls, fundraising and the large crowds she has attracted, the Democratic Party’s chances of winning the November presidential election have increased dramatically with the candidacy of Kamala Harris.
Nearly half of U.S. adults — 48 percent — have a very or somewhat favorable view of the US Vice President, That’s according to a new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. The latest figures are up from 39 percent before Joe Biden’s poor debate performance at the start of the summer.
Meanwhile, Joe Biden – who served as vice president under Barack Obama, America’s first black president – is now urging Democrats to support Kamala Harris, who, if victorious, would become the first female president. In 2020, Harris – who is also black and South Asian – became America’s first female vice president.
