An Israeli attack on Monday evening targeted a Hezbollah weapons depot in Lebanon’s eastern Bekaa Valley, the Israeli military said.
Two security sources told Reuters no one was killed in the attack. Lebanon’s health ministry said six of the eight injured were Lebanese civilians and two Syrian children.
The Israeli military said its air force attacked several Hezbollah weapons storage facilities in Lebanon’s Bekaa region.
“Following the attacks, secondary explosions were detected, which indicated that a large quantity of munitions were present in the affected installations,” the army said in a statement.
It said earlier strikes in Der Qanun and Taybe in southern Lebanon targeted a senior militant from Hezbollah’s rocket and missile unit and a cell operating from Hezbollah’s military structure.
Following the attack on the depot, the Lebanese Agricultural Scientific Research Authority said it would close its research centers in the Bekaa region as a precaution after unexploded missiles fell nearby.
On Saturday, the Israeli military said it targeted a weapons depot used by Lebanese armed group Hezbollah militants in an air strike, killing at least 10 people, including two children.
In July, Israeli strikes also targeted another ammunition depot belonging to the Iranian-backed group in the southern Lebanese city of Adloun, three security sources told Reuters.
Confrontation between Israel and Hezbollah has been ongoing since Hezbollah announced a “support front” with the Palestinians shortly after its ally Hamas attacked southern Israeli border communities on October 7, leading to Israel’s military offensive into Gaza.
Some 622 people have been killed in Lebanon since the conflict began last year, including 416 Hezbollah fighters and 132 civilians, according to Reuters.
