Israel says it hit around 10 Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, killed one fighter

The Israeli military said on July 30 that it attacked nearly 10 Hezbollah targets overnight in seven different areas of southern Lebanon, killing one fighter from the Iran-backed militant group.

The army also “attacked a Hezbollah weapons storage facility, terrorist infrastructure sites, military structures and a launcher in southern Lebanon”, the military said.

The attack came after a rocket fired from Lebanon on Saturday hit a Druze Arab town in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, killing 12 children aged 10 to 16.

The Druze, a branch of Shia Islam, are an Arabic-speaking community present in Israel, Lebanon and Syria, including the Golan.

During a visit to Majdal Shams on July 29, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed that Israel would give a “strong response” to the attack.

Israel says the rocket that killed the children was an Iranian-made missile and was fired by its ally Hezbollah.

Hezbollah has denied responsibility for the rocket fire, although it claimed to have fired several rockets toward Israel on 27 July.

There have been almost daily clashes along the border between the Israeli military and Hezbollah since the Israel-Hamas war began on October 7.

According to army figures, so far 22 soldiers and 24 civilians on the Israeli side, including in Golan, have been killed in the violence.
