Amid rising tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, especially after the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, Iran has called an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council as it seeks revenge against the Jewish state.
Following Nasrallah’s killing, a shell fired from Lebanon crashed into the Israeli-occupied West Bank on Saturday, causing a fire. However, there is no news of anyone being injured in the incident. According to Israeli alert apps, air raid sirens were also sounded on the outskirts of Jerusalem and the West Bank, which the Israeli military said was triggered by “a launch from Lebanon towards Israeli territory”.
In his first public statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the killing of Hassan Nasrallah as “a historic turning point”.
Israeli strikes in Lebanon on Saturday killed 33 people and injured 195 others, Lebanon’s health ministry said. The Health Ministry said more than 1,000 people have been killed and more than 6,000 injured as a result of Israeli attacks over the past two weeks, and about one million Lebanese have been displaced by the attacks.
