Support for Vice President Kamala Harris poured out across the entertainment world following Tuesday night’s highly anticipated debate with Donald Trump. Moments after the debate ended, pop icon Taylor Swift expressed her support for Harris, kicking off the night’s widespread praise in Hollywood.
Among the first to offer their opinion was Mark Hamill, known to many as Luke Skywalker. Star Warsmocked Trump’s statement.
Fans also showered praise on the actor after his light-hearted comment. avengers Alumnus Mark Ruffalo took a more serious tone. Ruffalo admitted to feeling nervous before the debate, but was impressed by Harris’s composure and intelligence.
Scandal Star Kerry Washington praised Harris’ performance at the debate hosted by ABC News. Washington, a longtime political supporter, supported Harris-Walz by wearing a “Madame President” sweater.
Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel also joined the chorus, using Pixar-referencing humor to underscore the emotional rollercoaster experienced by many viewers. Kimmel’s comments teased out the contrast between the two debaters, with Harris’ calmness a stark contrast to Trump’s erraticism.
However, not all reactions were light-hearted. Former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama gave Harris their full support.
Michelle Obama issued a powerful call to action, urging voters to take to the streets and to the phones to ensure Harris wins. “There’s so much at stake,” she said.
President Joe Biden also praised Harris and emphasized her leadership and readiness to guide the country.
The debate may be over, but the overwhelming support Harris is receiving in Hollywood shows that she remains a strong contender in the race for the White House.
