at least four more murder cases have been registered against Bangladesh’s ousted Prime Minister Sheikh HasinaMedia reports on Sunday (August 25, 2024) said that the event is likely to take place with Congress president Sonia Gandhi, her former cabinet ministers and colleagues in attendance.
A murder case was filed on Sunday (August 25, 2024) against Ms Hasina, 76, former Bangladesh Border Guard director general Gen Aziz Ahmed and 11 others in connection with the killing of then Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) officer Abdur Rahim in 2010, state-run news agency BSS reported.

Rahim, the then Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) of the former BDR, was an accused in the case registered in connection with the Pilkhana massacre in 2010. He died in jail custody on July 29 the same year.
Rahim’s son Advocate Abdul Aziz filed the case in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman.
Another murder case was registered on Sunday against Ms Hasina and 48 others for the killing of a student of the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) during an anti-discrimination student agitation on July 18, the agency said.
It said Abdullah-al Kabir, uncle of victim Sheikh Ashbul Yamin, on Sunday filed a petition in the court of Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Saiful Islam, appealing to register a murder case against the 49 accused.
Accepting the petition, the court ordered the police to record the statement of the plaintiff and register the complaint as a First Information Report (FIR).
Awami League general secretary and former road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan, among others, have been made accused in the case.
A separate case was registered against Hasina and 27 others over the killing of a seller of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) products in the capital during a recent protest.
Victim Mohammad Yusuf Sanowar’s brother-in-law Mamunur Rashid filed a complaint before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saddam Hossain. The court asked the officer-in-charge of Jatrabari police station to accept the case as a First Information Report (FIR).
Other key accused in the case are Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader and former ministers Anisul Haque and Tajul Islam.
Another case was registered against 25 people, including Ms Hasina, in connection with the murder of an auto-rickshaw driver in the capital during the recent protests.

Ms Hasina resigned and fled to India on August 5 following unprecedented anti-government student-led protests against her government over a controversial quota system in jobs.
The Hasina-led government was removed and an interim government was formed with 84-year-old Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus appointed as its chief advisor.
More than 230 people have been killed in Bangladesh in incidents of violence that erupted across the country following the fall of the Hasina government, taking the death toll to over 600 since massive protests launched by students in mid-July against a controversial quota system in government jobs.
