China said it has lodged a diplomatic protest with India over the newly established office of Taiwan’s Taipei Economic and Cultural Center (TECC) in Mumbai.

“There is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory,” China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said while responding to a question at a media briefing in Beijing on Thursday.

“China firmly opposes all forms of official contact and interaction between Taiwan and countries that have diplomatic relations with China, including the establishment of representative offices to each other. We have lodged serious representations with the Indian side.

‘Follow India’s commitments’

Ms Mao said the One-China principle is a serious political commitment made by the Indian side and serves as the political foundation for China-India relations.

“China calls on the Indian side to strictly abide by its commitments, deal with Taiwan-related issues judiciously and appropriately, not hold any kind of official dialogue with Taiwan, and avoid disturbing the process of improving China-India relations. Urges.” He said.

TECC in India opened a branch in Mumbai on Wednesday, taking the number of its offices in India to three. TECC’s first offices were in Delhi and Chennai.
