Vice President Kamala Harris could join President Joe Biden on stage at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Monday when Biden endorses her as the party’s nominee for the Nov. 5 presidential election, sources said Saturday.
Biden, who withdrew from his re-election bid Under pressure from fellow Democrats a month ago, he will deliver a prime-time address to the convention on Monday night, making the case for electing Harris and defeating Republican nominee former President Donald Trump.
Two sources familiar with internal deliberations said the campaign is discussing bringing Biden and Harris on stage together on Monday night, and that it is likely to happen. There is also talk that Harris could take the stage before Biden speaks at a major event.
Harris will return from a bus tour of western Pennsylvania on Sunday. She will remain in Chicago for most of the crucial convention week. She will travel to Milwaukee for a campaign event on Tuesday, and return to Chicago to hear her husband, Doug Emhoff, address the convention that night.
Biden, 81, reluctantly abandoned his re-election campaign after Democrats questioned his mental state following his poor performance in a June 27 debate against Trump.
The president told reporters Friday night that he would spend the weekend refining his convention speech. What is his message to the convention?
“Win,” he said, smiling.
Biden had fallen behind Trump in some polls after the debate, and Harris, 59, has made the race more competitive in several states that are likely to decide the election.
