Former Bangladesh Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi has been arrested in Dhaka as police took tough action against state officials and ministers. ousted prime minister sheikh hasina‘S Awami League Governmenton Sunday (August 25, 2024), as per media reports.
The 76-year-old leader was detained from a house in the capital Dhaka at around 3 am on Saturday (August 24, 2024). the daily star The newspaper gave this information quoting Mollah Mohammad Khalid Hussain, the officer in charge of Paltan police station.
According to the report, “Dhaka Metropolitan Police detained him and brought him to the Detective Branch (DB) office.” dhaka tribune,
“Ghazi was kept at the DB office as the police station was badly damaged following the recent violence,” Mr Hussain said. He said a group of people surrounded the house after learning of his presence there.
However, the police officer did not give any details about the case for which he was arrested.
Before this, Murder case A case was registered at the Rupganj police station in Narayanganj against 105 persons, including Ms Hasina and Mr Gazi.

Mr Gazi was elected MP from Narayanganj’s Rupganj-1 constituency in the 12th parliamentary elections held in January with the Awami League’s boat election symbol.
On Saturday (August 24, 2024), a Dhaka court remanded Ms Hasina’s private industry affairs adviser Salman F Rahman, former Law Minister Anisul Haque, former Social Welfare Minister Dipu Moni and two others for varying periods of time for questioning in four murder cases.
Apart from these three, former Chief Whip ASM Feroz and former Army officer Major General Ziaul Ahsan have also been remanded in the murder case. Cases have been registered against several officials or ministers of the ousted Hasina-led government after she resigned and fled to India following large-scale violence on 5 August.
