Another local said he was disappointed with the way Sheikh Hasina handled the student protests, which began over a controversial job quota system and later turned into an anti-government movement.
He said, “Sheikh Hasina did wrong. She should have interacted more with the students. She is also from this country. There was a need for dialogue, not repression.”
Violence broke out amid student protests on August 5, following which Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to neighbouring India, where she is currently residing. During the violence, Hindu homes and businesses and temples were vandalised, looted and set on fire.
