“Police found the decomposed body of a man in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district. Awami League “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will arrive from Bangladesh on August 26,” officials confirmed on Wednesday (August 28, 2024) evening.
The body was found in a betelnut plantation in Dona Bhoi area, about 1.5 km inside the India-Bangladesh border. This area falls under Umkiang police station.
District police superintendent Giri Prasad told reporters that Ishaq Ali Khan Panna was identified from the passport found on his body. “The body has been taken to the Khilehriat (district headquarters) civil hospital for post-mortem and further investigation,” he said.

There has been no report of infiltration/illegal entry of Bangladeshi nationals in the area of responsibility of BSF Meghalaya Frontier along the Indo-BD (Bangladesh) border recently. The story being circulated is completely fabricated, and there is no involvement of BSF in the unfortunate death of Panna,” said a statement issued by BSF spokesperson Trideep Sangma on August 26.
