Bangladesh consulate in US attacked, protesters take down portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman

Amid growing unrest in Bangladesh, the country’s consulate in New York was attacked on Tuesday. In a video, protesters were seen toppling pictures of former president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman after breaking into the consulate. Meanwhile, the US on Tuesday advised its citizens not to travel to Bangladesh as it is facing civil unrest, crime and terrorism following the resignation and flight of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

More than 100 people have been killed in violence that descended into chaos across Bangladesh just hours after Hasina resigned as prime minister and fled the country on Monday. As news of Hasina’s departure spread on Monday, hundreds of people broke into her home, vandalising and looting it, dramatically escalating anti-government protests.
