A Pakistani guard shot and wounded two Chinese nationals working at a textile mill in the southern port city of Karachi on Tuesday, but officials said the attack was not related to terrorist violence.
China has often demanded better protection for its citizens working in Pakistan. Two Chinese people died last month suicide car bombing Outside Karachi Airport.
Thousands of Chinese are in Pakistan to work for Beijing’s billion-dollar assets Belt and Road InitiativeWhich is building major infrastructure projects. An unknown number of Chinese are also working in factories in the country.
Provincial Home Department spokesman Suhail Jokhoio said the guard involved in the textile mill attack had been arrested and police were still investigating to find out why the man opened fire.
He said the injured Chinese were taken to hospital.
Pakistan has said that it is committed to providing full security to the Chinese working in the country.
