Fred Trump III, the son of Donald Trump’s late brother Fred Trump Jr., has given his support to Vice President Kamala Harris for the upcoming US presidential election. He also explained why he would vote for the Indian-American politician.
The endorsement comes as Fred Trump III is promoting his new book — All in the Family: The Trumps and How We Got This Way.
After the President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the presidential race Speaking at an event in support of Democratic candidate Harris on July 21, Fred Trump III publicly expressed his support for the Democratic candidate.
“I believe in policy more than I do politics, and without a doubt, Kamala Harris’ policies are ones I support,” Fred Trump said in an interview on The View.
“So I will be voting for Kamala Harris. And if I were asked, I would campaign for her without hesitation,” he added.
In an interview with CNN, Fred Trump explained his reasons for supporting Harris.
“I firmly believe that our freedom is at risk, and Kamala Harris is the only person standing up to eliminate freedom in a democracy,” Fred Trump III said.
Fred Trump III and his sister Mary have been outspoken critics of their uncle, former President Donald Trump.
In an interview with ABC News on Tuesday, Fred described the former president’s perspective as “complex and sometimes brutal.”
He elaborated on Good Morning America, saying, “Families are complicated. Every family has its crazy uncle. My uncle Donald is the nuclear crazy one. And he has left his mark on the family history,” The Hill reported.
Trump’s communications director said it was a cheap way to sell books
Fred Trump’s new book — All in the Family: The Trumps and How We Got This Way — includes “never-before-told stories” about the Trump family and his complicated relationship with the former president.
A revelation in the book details a conversation Fred Trump had with his uncle during a visit to the Oval Office, in which Donald Trump allegedly suggested that people with disabilities should “just die”.
Fred Trump III recounted one such incident during a phone conversation about medical funds for his disabled son, William.
In response, Trump’s communications director Steven Cheung refuted Fred Trump’s claims, calling them “complete fabrication and fake news of the highest order”.
“It is an appalling lie that could be printed in the media in such a vile and disgusting way. Anyone who knows President Trump knows he would never use such language, and such false stories have been thoroughly debunked. This is nothing more than a cheap attempt to sell copies of a book that is available at a bargain price in the fiction section,” Cheung said, The Hill reported.
