Communism and the United States going hand in hand is almost unimaginable. The two going hand in hand and co-existing might be a contradiction in itself. However, communism, which has long been seen as a foreign movement, has once again raised its head in public discourse in this capitalist nation.
“Say hello to America’s communist generation,” the Revolutionary Communists of America (RCA)’s x handle tweeted, posting a video of about 500 party members marching in the eastern US city of Philadelphia.
And guess what, the March video received a brief but strong response from X chief Elon Musk.
In several videos posted on the party page, a group of a few hundred RCA members marched through the streets of Philadelphia carrying red communist flags and hammer and sickle symbols.
As the march progressed, slogans of “Class War 2024” began to reverberate.
Reposting the RCA March video, which had the caption, “Billionaires are parasites,” Allen simply used an exclamation mark to make his point.
Calling billionaires “parasites” on a platform owned by American billionaire Musk would have prompted a sharp, but bitter, response.
The reaction perhaps also shows that the American billionaire is ‘at a loss for words’.
As the United States is in the midst of the 2024 presidential election, another RCA post on X says, “Join the party that will overthrow capitalism in our lifetime”.
When charged that the marchers would be Communists voting for the Democrats, the RCA handle responded, “No. Both the Democrats and the Republicans are parties of billionaires”.
That is why we have formed a new party today.”
The Communist Party of America was formed in February
According to a report on Marxist.com, the RCA was founded in February, when hundreds of “comrades gathered across the United States to discuss the founding of the Revolutionary Communists of America (RCA) – a new political party.”
The RCA’s founding convention was held in Philadelphia on July 27 and 28, followed by the march.
The report said the party was for “a new generation of class fighters eager to become active and organised in the belly of the beast”.
According to the RCA website, the party’s announcement sparked “tremendous enthusiasm” and “within the first week hundreds of Communists applied to join the new party.”
He said this was proof that there were thousands of revolutionary communists in America ready to organize and fight for revolution.
However, this political development in the US has hardly been covered by the American media. Perhaps this is why the march of young men and women in Philadelphia is so serious.
Communism and America, no matter how different they are from each other, does not mean that Karl Marx’s philosophy has had no influence on the capitalist nation. In the early 20th century, America saw the rise of the Communist Party USA, which played a significant role in labor movements and civil rights activism.
