A 32-year-old Indian national who was on a student visa has been sentenced to 12 years in prison and 10 years of supervised release by a federal court for attempting to entice a minor into illegal sexual activity, a US attorney said.

Court records show that from September 20, 2022, to October 6, 2022, Upendra Aduru, 32, who was in the United States on a student visa, communicated through social media with a spy posing as a 13-year-old girl.

During their conversations, Aduru repeatedly expressed his desire to engage in sexual activity with the alleged minor and sent multiple adult pornographic images to the undercover detective.

Aduru repeatedly tried to meet the girl and eventually went to a park in Millcreek Township after setting up a meeting with her.

He was arrested when he arrived. According to the United States Attorney’s Office, a search of Aduru’s phone revealed social media conversations between Aduru and the undercover detective.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
