Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance has already been embroiled in controversy. Controversy over ‘childless cat lady’ comment, A new controversy has erupted after another old clip went viral in which he is making an unusual suggestion. In this 2021 clip, while addressing a conservative organization, Vance proposed that people with children should be given more voting rights than non-parents.

The video is of Vance’s address to an organization called the ‘Intercollegiate Studies Institute’ in which he said that people who don’t have children have no “investment” in America’s future and “probably shouldn’t have an equal voice.”

He said, “Let’s give all the children in this country the right to vote, but let’s give control of those votes to the parents of those children. When you go to vote as a parent in this country, you should have more power — you should have more ability to have a say in our democratic republic — than people who don’t have children. Let’s face the consequences and reality: If you don’t have as much investment in the future of this country, maybe you shouldn’t have as much of a voice.”

The Republican vice presidential candidate, who was then a US Senator, further said he was aware his comments could be criticised by several media agencies.

“Doesn’t that mean that non-parents don’t have as much of a voice as parents? Doesn’t that mean that parents have more say in our democratic practices? Yes, absolutely,” J.D. Vance said to loud applause.

Vance, the running mate of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, is facing public condemnation after his ‘childless cat ladies’ remark demeaning Democratic leaders went viral. The remark, also from 2021, attacked Vice President Kamala Harris, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

In a July 29, 2021, interview with Fox News host Tucker Carlson, J.D. Vance claimed that the US was ruled by “a dastardly state consisting of cat lovers”.

Kamala Harris, who was put forward for the US presidential race by President Joe Biden – after he dropped out of the race – has gained the confidence of Democrats, who see her as a “burst of energy” and capable of defeating Donald Trump.
