19 dead after boat overturns in Ethiopia


At least 19 people were killed when a boat capsized on a river in the northwest of the country, Ethiopian state media reported on Sunday.

According to the state-run Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA), the tragedy occurred on Saturday in the Amhara region as a group of people were crossing the Tekeze River, which partly forms the border between Ethiopia and Eritrea.

At least 26 people were on board the aircraft at the time of the accident.

According to the EPA, seven people, including a child, have been rescued, while only two bodies have been recovered so far.

This was the second major incident in Ethiopia in recent days. On Monday, a man set a truck on fire, killing himself. Landslides in the south More than 250 people were killed.
